Jerome and Carla - Autumn Themed Tagaytay Wedding

‘Be happy and everyone will feel the same’

Jerome S. Valerio met Ma. Carla M. Cuison met as bankers working in the same bank but in different branches. “We met back in 2015, he was then assigned to the. Binondo branch while I was in Quezon City. Our company was changing its system, and that’s how we met,” recalls Carla.

Jerome and Carla were married on June 5, 2021 with an intimate wedding with just their immediate family, after three reschedules. Originally they were set to marry late 2020, then it was moved to the second quarter of 2021. A month and a half after their intimate wedding, the Cuisons had a “re-enactment or thanksgiving,” as they called it with 75 guests.

As if rescheduling their wedding three times wasn’t enough of a challenge, Jerome and Carla also had to face a rainy week leading up to their celebration plus an earthquake. “The most memorable moments on our wedding day were actually the challenges we faced, but at the end of that day I think the relief we felt that we were finally graduates!” Says Carla.

Below, Carla shares with Inspirations.ph how they dealt with the changing quarantine guidelines and their advice for couples planning their wedding:

What was your theme for your wedding?

Our chosen theme was autumn and our non-negotiable was the ceiling treatment as this adds to the overall mood of the wedding.

Original wedding date was on November 28, 2020 with 150 guests however, due to the pandemic it was moved to April 24, 2021. That date didn’t work out as well because of the second wave. We decided to move it a third time again on June 5, 2021 with immediate family only. We had our re-enactment or “thanksgiving” last July 24, 2021 where 75 guests were invited.

What were the challenges encountered during the wedding preparation

I think the biggest challenge we faced was the inconsistent quarantine classifications, especially because we live in Manila and our wedding venue is Tagayta. Inconsistent guidelines released by the LGU/government wa the major deciding factor for us since everything depends on what the protocols are during our preparation period.

How did you handle the challenges?

At first, like any other couple we were devastated, imagine planning for almost 3 years for one of the biggest event in our lives and then a pandemic happens? But despite the challenges, we believe that the unending support and understanding we received from our guests and suppliers was what kept us going. We were just grateful that we are healthy and none of us got the virus. A positive attitude and prayers is your strongest armor. In God’s perfect time indeed.

How did you feel during the wedding?

A week before our celebration on July 24, 2021, a lot of challenges were still waiting for us. It was raining for the whole week, the delta variant was reported in the Philippines, a surge in covid cases, and lastly an earthquake was felt in Tagaytay. Imagine waking up to an earthquake on your special day. Plus, it was raining so hard. Despite all that, Jerome and I were just happy that we were finally celebrating with the most important people in our lives.

What were your most memorable moments from your wedding?

The most memorable moments on our wedding day were actually the challenges we faced, but at the end of that day I think the relief we felt that we were finally graduates!

What’s your advice for other couples planning their wedding?

The best tip we may give to the future couples is just enjoy your wedding day. Trust your suppliers that they will do their best to give you your dream wedding. Be yourselves and don’t stress on things you cannot control. Be happy and everyone will also feel the same.
